Disruptive Technologies: Focus Mobile Internet and Cloud Technology
McKinsey today published a new report on Disruptive Technologies. The technologies that will redefine the world in the next few years - target 2025.
McKinsey is NO Nostradamus. Nor are they predicting the next world war or end of hunger and poverty. However I think they did a great job in identifying what are the places where things need a change. What are the places where people and organisations are focusing on. What are the places where the organisations are putting their RnD money or what are the places where startups and VCs are putting their money on.

At the end of the day the need is to Transform Life - To Change The World (Guy Kawasaki)
Well I look at it is to solve MY PROBLEMS - To solve problems that I as a consumer / user face on a day on day.
I loved each and every of the 12 potentially economically disruptive technologies.
I will talk about somethings I think I know about
Mobile Internet
Well Well Well... This one is my favourite. I love to surf on the internet and be connected all the time. I love to get all information at my disposal all the time. I also love the way Mobile Payments is redefining the way things are moving. I think "Simplicity" in payments are of key importance. I love to pay easily and conveniently - of course it has to be secure..
Since I am close to payments I think this is the redefinition of world. Payments drives commerce and thus drives economies.
The report talks about:
- $3 Trillion in global transaction revenue
- Implementation of advanced electronic payments systems in
- 80 - 100% of advanced economies
- 65 - 80 % of the developing economies
- 50 % productivity gain in managing transaction across all stakeholders
It talks about public sector the citizen services will be online services and through mobile Apps - information requests, licence applications and tax payments.
It talks about a farmer selling her harvest and instantly funds getting transferred in her account - a simple SMS to notify the same.
This can be made possible by inclusion of Government + Banks + Corporations + Technology Providers.

- Digitise payments at their end - Tax collections + Social disbursement payments
Banks
- Participate in growth
- Drive and support innovation
Corporations
- Bring their distribution channel and reach
- Digitize payments at their end
Technology
- Enable payments using scalable, secure technology platform

Cloud Technology
As it is evident Information technology is in the centre of all this disruption. This disruption is only possible when IT is economical and infrastructure costs within reach.
Cloud Technology removes the need for buying hardware for each and every IT needs. It enables sharing of technology - sharing of infra structure and hence drives the economics within reach. It also removes the time and cost of entry barrier...
2025 which is 12 years ahead is not very far. We will see how close to this we reach.
